London to Brighton Cycle Ride - 63miles!

Cycling from London to Brighton yesterday was the most traumatic experience of my life. We cycled 63miles EXACTLY! We left New Malden in Surrey to cycle to the start line in Clapham Common at 6am, and got into Brighton sometime late afternoon!

Please check out the photos, but do not let these images fool you into thinking it was a nice pub jolly in the country! Most of them were taken very early on.. it was really intense heat, and the hill at the end up to Ditchling Beacon was hell on Earth... 35c (well over 90f) heat - with heavy backpacks and only 4 hours sleep the night before...

Other highlights include a road that had MELTED, which was like cycling through treacle, and also the strange feeling toward the end when you're cycling with hundreds of other people but everyone is too tired to talk, so all you hear is the sound of tyre friction on the road. very surreal.

During the day I consumed roughly 15 litres of water (and 2 pints of ale), and used half a bottle of factor 50 sunblock... (which still didn't stop me getting burned!)

I am a broken man mentally and physically. I am suffering from blisters, sunburn, sleep deprivation, back-ache, dizziness, nausea, heat-stroke... the list goes on and on. When we got to Brighton I laid on the beach close to tears... (and then I ate a big burger - see last photo).

I am stunned at the level of support I have received from people over the last few weeks... I've raised over £500 for the British Heart Foundation and new sponsors are still coming in! Thanks to everyone for making the ride worthwhile!
